Re: Computer Software for Astrogation

Take on an NPC navigator. This can be a full time crew position or you can look for an NPC willing to join for working passage. It's always useful to have few NPCs handy, makes it easier to explain a new party character when one of them is killed/critically injured. You also have the option of buyin...

Re: Megafreighters

GURPS Far Trader went to the logical conclusion that LASH trading would be common for bulk trade - Lighter aboard ship. The jump frame jump between the 100D limits of worlds, the cargo is offloaded either to shuttles for carrying to the world or by actually using a 'powered cargo pod' - the lighter ...

Re: Ship is destroyed, now what?

If the new body is synthetic or cybernetic (extensive prosthesis would count) then on many worlds of the Imperium the character could be declared legally the property of whoever payed the bills.

Re: Megafreighters

The x-boat network was constructed on top of the existing trade network. The Traveller Adventure has an excellent chapter on trade routes within the Aramis subsector that can be used as a starting point for trade route additions to the existing x-boat network. Trade and commerce in the well develope...

Re: Ship is destroyed, now what?

T5 offers several variations and options for raise dead. Recover as much of the body as possible - regrow the bits that are damaged. If the brain has been critically damaged regrow that as well and then download a memory back up from a wafer or personality storage insurance company. You did pay to h...

Re: Space Combat Hit Location.

There is a need for artificial gravity and acceleration compensation in the fuel tanks.

If you are pulling twenty plus g maneuvers during combat or reentry you do not want all that mass shifting unexpectedly.

And most of your questions have been answered in CT sources...

Re: Ship is destroyed, now what?

By the book: Once a spacecraft has been reduced to zero Hull, it is wrecked and becomes totally inoperable, and is beyond any repair. Those on board will find themselves without power or life support. So what about those folks on board? What the vicorious enemy decides to keep shooting, or there is...

Buy the T2300 cd/flash drive from FFG then convert to MgT yourself. It's not hard and there is a lot more material on the cd/flash than has ever been release officially for MgT. Note, there are issues with the cd I bought many years ago so it may be worth pinging a question on CotI to find out if th...

Re: Ship Design Philosophy

Solar panels have one intrinsic limitation - they can not gather more energy than there is incident. There may be TL improvements that allow nearly 100% capture, but you are still limited to generating no more electricity than there is incident radiation. For a ship in orbit around the Earth each sq...

Re: Armor Factors

There are other factors - if I am firing six lasers at you from two turrets I have six chances to hit, six chances to critical, those lasers are hitting a similar area on the target so they should have additional penetration potential etc. Not to mention that is six lasers are linked to all be firin...

You really should resurrect weapon batteries and use a similar logarithm
scale for increasing/deacreasing their damage based on the relative scale of battery factor vs size factor.

Re: How do I persuade A Player to take A Deal?

You don't. The player has agency over his/her character and is the only one that can decide their motivations, actions and responses to an event. If the player wants their character to take the deal the character will, if the player has the character decline the deal and die then start rolling a new...

Once you are anointed king you are king - unless it is a constitutional monarchy and the parliament/senate/congress/moot can vote for your removal. The legitimate claimant can either hope his older brother abdicates in his favour or would have to resort to illegal means - alternatively go and have a...

Re: fuel-cargo hybrid space

Canonically the x-boat routes were established by being built along existing trade lanes, so the 4pc trade lanes existed before the x-boat network and carries trade goods etc not just information. The Traveller Adventure does a pretty good job showing how there can be other trade routes with a subse...

Re: [Deneb Sector] 2000 dT Huscarle Cruisers

I don't believe the validity of the statement for several reasons: meson bays exist in the designs included in the HG2e book the original maker of that statement can not back it up with evidence, I put it down to misunderstanding meson bays exist in every version of Traveller - they are not in T5 be...

Re: [Deneb Sector] 2000 dT Huscarle Cruisers

There is stuff in MgT that is canon for the OTU setting and there is stuff in MgT that is not canonical for the OTU setting. In a similar way there is stuff in TNE FF&S that is not canonical for the OTU - eg stutterwarp - and stuff that was retconned out of the OTU eg HEPlaR as standard drive for al...

Re: [Deneb Sector] 2000 dT Huscarle Cruisers

To be OTU compliant it has to have appeared in previous canon or be in T5. Meson bays are OTU compliant since they are in many OTU sources and are even in the ships in HG2e. They are not in T5 as yet because T5 hasn't releaed BCS maker yet. Tachyon weapons make no sense for several reasons, there ar...

Re: [Deneb Sector] 2000 dT Huscarle Cruisers

Here we go again. Just because something is in the basic weapons chapter or basic ship construction chapters of HG2e it does not make them OTU compliant. I argued many times during the playtest that this should have been made very clear. Tachyon weapons are not the only system to be found in the bas...
