Re: untested house rule

I don't balance the player characters ever, if someone generates a three term other, another generates a seven term army vet and yet another has a single term scout that is what they make the party out of.

Life is not balanced or fair.

Re: Large Scout Ships?

Yeah, I'll pass on agent book. In which case you miss out on the canonical Third Imperial setting as best described by its actual author. While T5 is official (and I'm a kickstarter backer), it's a dust collector as far as I'm concerned. As a game it is unplayable, the rules are broken and very imp...

Re: What size ships

Traveller is a role playing game. The idea is your players act out the roles of the characters they create.

Fighting a fleet vs fleet engagement is a wargame; games like Mayday, Battle Rider, Power Projection are better at modelling ship combat on this scale.

Re: What size fleet could definitely defeat it

An Imperial destroyer squadron - twenty 5000t destroyers could take it. A light cruiser squadron with a dozen 30,000t cruisers would stomp all over the entire area. Combine a couple of destroyer squadrons with a couple of cruiser squadrons and you have a fleet that can end your Drinax campaign - thi...

Re: Large Scout Ships?

The true powers behind the throne of the Imperium know that the empress wave is coming, that there will be a time of complete chaos (the rebellion and virus era perhaps) and an invasion by the black ships (Lucan's Black Imperium fleets or perhaps something even more threatening Essaray/Esseray, Abys...

Re: Great White Fleets... in spaaaayyyccceeee!

In the 57th century an Imperial BatRon of Tigresses will certainly strike fear in its neighbours, but there is a reason the Imperium holds its rider BatRons in reserve to annihilate the opposition.

Re: Large Scout Ships?

The Azhantis are hand me downs; I've never come across canon that says they were passed a battleship. If you're looking for an Enterprise NCC-1701, the Solomani are far more likely to have that, since their Navy is tasked with the missions and roles of the Imperium Scout Service, and have the Rim t...

Re: Large Scout Ships?

The role of the scout service is one that doesn't really require large capital ships. They have a bigger need to be more places simultaneously than needing to be in a fewer places with a bigger stick. Canon disagrees. The IISS had 40,000t cruisers on twenty year mission exploring beyond Imperial sp...

Re: Large Scout Ships?

There is the ISS Talon, a 40,000 ton jump 5 cruiser mentioned in Agent of the Imperium. It's mission is to explore - Talon was eight years out on a twenty-year mission coreward of the Imperial borders, generally to chart new systems, contact new cultures, and increase the empire’s knowledge of uncha...

Re: Putting a self sufficient fighting force in a strange land

Bah, a Delgado model Fusil modelo 487 ACR is not identical to an Instellarms m/990, and neither can use parts for a Sternmetal KfzG/39(c). Nope, externally they are different, but internally and parts wise they have to conform to Imperial standard ACR-10 Advanced Combat Rifle -10 R=3 Cr1300 2.8 kg ...

Re: Putting a self sufficient fighting force in a strange land

Imperial standards are discussed at length in T4 - see Central Supply Catalogue and Emperor's Arsenal. They also get a mention in T5/AotI. The Sylean Federation was already TL12 when it became the Third Imperium, the ACR was old tech even then, so standardising a TL10 design for mass production in T...

Re: Putting a self sufficient fighting force in a strange land

The Imperial standard ACR - the Imperium insists on standardisation across the empire in order to simplify the supply chain.

An ACR purchased of Regina will quite happily use spare parts and fire ammo purchased on Efate, or even Terra for that matter.

Re: Repairs, Maintenance, and Construction

There were no human empires that preceded the Third Imperium that had a higher TL. The First Imperium deliberately capped itself at TL11 (although Vilani explorers did encounter worlds with TLs much higher than TL11, some were definitely in the 20s but lacked jump technology) The 'second' Imperium b...

Re: Repairs, Maintenance, and Construction

See the problem with this analogy is that last month there was a story about the USA ordering new planes to replace their old F-15s. Well of course, you say. They're getting F-22s and F-35s! Well, no. They're buying more F-15s. But you say, this is the ANG and not the USAF! But when there's a war a...

Re: Repairs, Maintenance, and Construction

In this instance, all that's relevant is whether the Gazelles are: 1. Designed and constructed for combat They were retconned to not be 2. Built below technological level fifteen, and old design still in use 3. Still in production. megacorporations are allowed to own them for anti-piracy work The K...

Re: Repairs, Maintenance, and Construction

In the CT pre High Guard retcon OTU the Gazelle was a close escort and a useful warship, but then the Kinunir was a state of the art TL15 battle cruiser. The shift of the OTU to a big ship High Guard universe invalidates the Gazelle design as a close escort and the Kinunir as a battle cruiser, and t...
