Re: Metallic Hydrogen

The current edition that defines the OTU is T5, the Mongoose Third Imperium is at best an ATU with close similarities. I really like what Mongoose have done with Pirates of Drinax, and the new setting introduced in the Starter set, but everytime Mongoose publishes something that clashes with T5 it g...

Re: Jump stations to charge Zuchai crystals

Zuchai crystals are not mentioned in MWM jump space article or T5. They first make an appearance in the CT A:4 Leviathan: Zuchai Crystal: These crystals form the raw material for a vital focussing element in jump drives. They are both naturally occurring and manufactured, but the natural type appear...

Re: Metallic Hydrogen

There is no hydrogen filled jump bubble. The writers of T4 misunderstood what was written in DGP's MR Starship Operators Manual and Mongoose have compounded this bit of fanon. A collector powered jump drive requires no hydrogen, an antimatter power plant only requires matter/antimatter - could be hy...

Re: Electronic banking & currency

The Imperium requires the adoption of the Imperial Credit as currency.

Much the same way as the EU requires new member states adopt the Euro, and the US would require its colonies, territories and dependencies to be using the US dollar before they could apply for full membership as a state,

Re: Metallic Hydrogen

You don't need hydrogen as part of your jump drive sequence - collector and antimatter powered jump do not use hydrogen.

We don't.

But I would like more liftwood for my etherflyer - damaged a sail on the last trip to Venus :)

Silicon based life has been a staple of sci fi for a long time. The deyo chip was bred/engineered call it what you like from a living, sentient silicon based life form. Also within Traveller now we have the ability to overwrite a personality with the digitised version of another personality. So if y...

Collapse of the Rule of Man: The -1776 date for the end of the Rule of Man is arbitrary, and notes the financial collapse of the central government, when the Treasury at Hub/Ershur refused to honor a monetary issue of the branch treasury at Antares. The resulting lack of confidence within monetary c...

Re: Metallic Hydrogen

Metallic hydrogen is produced cheaply using the energy generated by a cold fusion reactor. During this process dark matter is concentrated to increase the pseudo-density of the hydrogen until it undergoes a phase change to metallicity and emits dark energy in the process. No real physics was harmed ...

Re: Ship Design Philosophy

GT:ISW has a simplified system for hardpoints that takes surface area and hull configuration into account to calculate hardpoints.

Over a decade ago on CotI there was this thread:

Re: House Rules: Additional Jump Drives

Jump drive TL progression is in the table on page 14 of HG2e. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by the MT and TNE drive fuel progression. In MT jump drives used less fuel at higher TLs but DGP was of the opinion that your full fuel load should be used regardless of jump distance, this was mentione...

Re: Ship Design Philosophy

Just about every CT supplement and adventure that details ships has some version of this: Acceleration compensators are also installed to negate the effects of high acceleration and lateral G forces while maneuvering . So the acceleration compensators don't just compensate for the maneuver drive thr...

Magic technologies in need of handwavium in the OTU: gravitics - may be used to explain away the maneuver drive, null grav modules, grav plates, acceleration compensation, repulsors and tractors, possibly heat sinks and a basis for jump drive discovery. I have yet to see an explanation of how gravit...

Re: does Traveller 2E not include aliens?

The artists got it wrong and later authors didn't do their research - hence we end up with liono and catgirl. Every so often there is someone who pops up thinking Aslan are uplifted Terran cats... As to culture vs instinct - intelligence means culture trumps most instincts besides those hard wired i...

Re: New player to Traveller

Ever read Dave Nilsen's comprehensive interview at CoTI? He took the matter very seriously. He explained the reasons for that take on the Ithklur and what was going to happen if Into the Belly of the Beast had ever been published, and hinted at the role the Ithklur would take in helping the RC/Regen...

Re: does Traveller 2E not include aliens?

Vargr are not anthropomorphic dogs, there were no dogs 300,000 years ago. They are based on wolves, not dogs. As to the Aslan: Early Terran explorers regarded the Aslan as "lion-like," and the simile has stuck ever since, although the Aslan bear little resemblance to Terrestrial lions or how about t...

Re: Ship Design Philosophy

Have you run the numbers for the MgT reaction drive? My solution to the fusion drive/low amount of fuel used was to have the m-drive reduce the inertial mass of the ship (handwave gravitics tech here) so that the fusion gun used for acceleration can produce the performance indicated. Another solutio...

Re: Ship Design Philosophy

Not necessarily. There is no additional information in 81CT LBB2 or HG80 to overwrite the fusion drive description in HG79. The descriptive text of the maneuver drive in LBB2 both editions is similar, as is the descriptive text in 79HG and 80HG - in fact the text on page 17 of each book regarding th...
