Re: Completely new to Traveller - Which simple adventure to start with and advices

Death Station.

It was in a Signs and Portents issue or you could just get the CT version.

Mongoose should re-release it as part of a free quickstart - you would need a trimmed down version of the rules and some pregens.

Re: Ship modification - stretching

Look at some of the ships in TNE for inspiration for welding ships together...

I played around with deckplans from S7 and other CT sources and cut some up along bulkheads before sticking them together - lots of interesting permutations you can come up with.

Re: Spaceship vs. Starship

How do you armour the engine exhausts? How do you armour the beam emitters - if they can shoot out something can shoot in. A sensor stalk still has to have some link with the internals or how does it get its data into the ship without being spoofed? There are always points of weakness - except the G...

Re: Ship Design Philosophy

There is a rather good article on atomic rockets about how the Epstein drive could actually be scientifically plausible. http://www.projectrho.com/public_html/rocket/enginelist2.php#id--Fusion--(_Epstein_Drive_) scroll down to matter beam's analysis or alternatively use this link for the original ar...

Re: ship rental - costs and problems. Do we break char gen if ships are too easy to get?

Before you start a campaign you and the players must decide if they are likely to have a ship at the start, or even if they even want a ship based campaign. If the players want a technothriller Mission Impossible/Altered Carbon/Mercenary/whatever type campaign a ship is not necessary to the action. ...

Re: What happens if 2 black globes touch?

Found it - although it wasn't the Zhos. It is in T5 The Star Marine Guards defending the Imperial Embassy on Arden during the Fifth Frontier War retreated to a Black Globe Safe Room when locals stormed and burned the compound. The 100-meter diameter globe neatly sliced through walls (and a few attac...

Yes, there is a canonical example of Imperial personnel retreating inside a black globe 'shelter' when the Zhos invade. I'll dig out the reference.

Except no ship can precipitate inside another ship - the automatically precipitate at 100D rule and the clarification that this includes ships prevents it from happening.

If you could link several hundred turrets you approximate a spinal mount.
Ever build a 'spinal mount' laser using TNE Fire Fusion and Steel - a truly scary weapon.

One question - will the ref's book consider players generating characters that have joined the ship enroute?

Take whichever book has those ridiculous portfolio rules in them and throw it in the bin.

Now generate characters using the core rulebook as per the written instructions. Generate a few characters, pick the one you want to play and have fun.

Re: Spaceship vs. Starship

I have several rambling comments: in original CT there was a major difference between a spaceship and a starship - cost: Non-starships may be constructed using the basic rules for starship construction, but omitting the jump drives. They may not later be converted to intersteller drive capability, b...

Re: Ship Construction idea: Piggyback external Mounts

It's not a new idea, see LASH traders in GURPS Traveller and the modular ships of the RCES in TNE for a couple of examples.
Back in CT days there was A GW supplement with some ships detailed - one of which is a merchant that carries cargo pods.

Just a doubt: how/when/where maintenance is done if Deepnight Revelation is supposed to go "Where no man has gone before" for 20-30 years? :) This has been discussed quite a bit in the context of the long term missions we already know about - Zhodani core expeditions, Solomani rimward expedition an...

But that is not consistent with how a Fusion weapon is supposed to work; Core, Equipment, Heavy Weapons, p126: The ultimate personal firearm, the Fusion Gun, Man Portable is more like a piece of artillery. It includes a gravity suspension system to reduce its inertia, and fires what amounts to a di...
