Re: Legend vs. OpenQuest

I won't answer directly (cos I'm biased ;) ) but a really nice comparison was made between MRQ2 and OQ.

There's also a ton of reviews linked from this page

Ah yes the Design Mechanism's forum. One last thing on the whole RQ6 Gateway license issue, if you have any questions about it you are best asking there.

It's one thing to say "Sure, you can do it, loads of publishers have", but as an outsider looking at the HQGWL and the products out there, all I can conclude is that the rules are being bent. The reasonable conclusion to draw is that either Moon Design are not enforcing the rules, or that there is ...

So, what clause in the Gateway Licence is giving medievaladventures the impression that this is not allowed? This: Licensee will not define, redefine, or alter HeroQuest rules in a Licensed Product. Ok what that line means, and I did check with Jeff Richard who wrote the HQ Gateway license myself b...

The ability to present alternative rules (for e.g. removing hit locations and using general hit points) would be prohibited by the Gateway license, Nope, you can do this with HQ Gateway. I'm currently working on a commerical product that does just this, and I've run it past Jeff Richard of Moon Des...

I hope the RQ6 license learns from the Heroquest Gateway license and makes it a bit more open. Just out of interest how could the HQ Gateway in your opinion made any better by making it a bit more open. Not being snarky here just intrigued? I'm not Ultor, but just as an example of it being less ope...

I've deliberately stayed away from Glorantha with my OpenQuest. The one exception was a one shot scenario in HiG #3 where I expressly got Issaries Inc's permission. Ducks are generic, but I also passed that one past Issaries just to be sure. The big lesson here before you start anything that even li...

No he is categorically wrong. I've based what I've said upon discussions with Jeff Richard from Moon Designs who knows from sales both current and past how 'Glorantha is doing', not from idle speculation. I'm not going into any more detail, because that's for Jeff to say ;)

Duncan what you say in your post that is speculative and just plain wrong with regards to the reality of Gloranthan publishing. I'm not going to speak for others here, but I am going set the record straight on regarding the following. This is why D101 Games is publishing "The Book of Glorious Joy" (...

The Openquest rules are straightforward and slot into RQ2 with little or no effort at all. I'll certainly be keeping a weather eye out for more of the same. Maybe Newt can meet this demand if a larger company like Mongoose feels it isn't viable. Thanks for the kind words re:OpenQuest. You'll be hap...

I think a dedicated RQ zine is a good idea, although I do wonder if you'll struggle for articles/content though. I know that Rule One and HiG have had issues Another clarification, HiG has never struggled for content. If anything I'm currently sitting here with two issues worth at the moment :) It ...

And 'Hearts in Glorantha' which is hard copy and produced by Newt's D101 Games. Newt has permission from Matt to carry RQ articles as well as Glorantha ones, so perhaps contacting Newt via the D101 website, to see what experiences he's had, would be a good place to begin. To clarify, that's not tru...

I'm brewing a longer review, but quite simply in my opinion Clockwork and Chivalry is the best British Fantasy setting since WHFRP 1st ed. Its more fantastic than fantasy, there are no orcs, using the supersistions of the time as a basis for the magic in the game. It uses the MRQ2 framework to good ...

I ran a 3rd age Karia game for a good 10 years in the 90s. There's a partial write up of the background, history, setting, mythology and Gazeeter in Hearts in Glorantha issue 1. http://d101games.co.uk/books/hearts-in-glorantha/ for preview and more info. I choose it as an area to set my RQ3 campaign...

Indeed Monkey is not D100 based, but instead uses its own system that uses playing cards. The webpage for the game is here http://d101games.co.uk/books/monkey/ and will be updated with all manner of previews once I've finished the last couple of pages of the game. Depending on how quick editing take...

I'm absolutely stoked by the annoucement regarding MRQ2. It seems like a reallly good refocus and relaunch of the of the line I know from conversations with Loz that the effort has been spent on ironing out the wrinkles. I think a big hurrah re:Living Glorantha is in order! What better way to introd...

Then all you have to do is 1. Use only the text of the SRD's you are using to base your 'new' RPG on. Don't have the RQ book open when you are composing your game, 2. Include a copy of the OGL license given in the SRD with your book. If you are using multiple SRDs , list them all in Section 15. And ...
